I understand the purpose of Facebook and I know the user stats. I just think there is too much noise on Facebook. I like things that are that are to-the-point.

Is it me, or do you completely miss the point of Facebook? The goals of Facebook and LinkedIn just aren't the same. That's not to say there aren't individuals using FB for business purposes, but it's generally about connecting with family & friends. That's substantially different than the business & networking that goes on in LinkedIn.

And if you think it's just for kids, have a look at the demographics and see how FB is changing.

http://www.istrategylabs.com/2009/01/2009-facebook-demographics-and-statistics-report-276-growth-in-35-54-year-old-users/

http://www.nickburcher.com/2009/03/facebook-usage-dominated-by-young.html

I'm not denying the usefulness of LinkedIn. I am also on it. I am also on Facebook, but my reasons for being there are very different. Like I said earlier, I keep in touch with family & friends there, but also arrange social events, etc.

Just as you have different tools in a woodworking shop for different jobs, you have different social media sites for different jobs.
