I completely agree, clichés typically don’t have a place in good writing, however, I have to disagree about some of the clichés you mention. “Fantastic and amazing” and “prices will never be this low again” are not clichés, they have not lost their meaning. They may be outright lies, depending on where they are used, but that doesn’t make them clichés.

Good post. I learned at The Sentinel how clichés ruin writing. That applies to PR as well as journalism. And songwriting. Thanks to my Sentinel training, clichés now really irritate me.
